INTEGRATED TRAUMA THERAPY

Integrated EMDR therapy with Craniosacral bodywork (somatic therapy) is a holistic approach treating trauma by addressing its physical, emotional, and cognitive impact, focusing on the nervous system.

 

It combines talk therapy with body-centered techniques—such as breathwork, mindfulness, and gentle touch—to release trapped trauma, reduce physical tension, and rewire stress responses.

Core Principles and Benefits

  • Mind-Body Connection: Recognizes that trauma is stored in the body (a "biological imprint") rather than just in the mind, aiming for the nervous system's "fight/flight/freeze" state to shift toward safety.

  • Releasing Stored Tension: Bodywork and somatic craniosacral techniques within help release tension, pain, and emotional blockages stored in muscles and tissues.

  • Self-Regulation: Helps individuals develop body awareness, or the ability to recognize physical signals and self-regulate, reducing panic and anxiety.

  • "Top-Down" and "Bottom-Up": Integrates "top-down" (cognitive, talk therapy) with "bottom-up" (bodily sensations, movement) approaches to create a comprehensive healing process. 

Techniques Involved

  • Somatic Experiencing (SE): A specialized approach through Craniosacral techniques, aimed at discharging stuck traumatic energy.

  • Mindfulness and Grounding: Observing sensations without becoming overwhelmed.

  • Titration and Pendulation: Gently exploring traumatic memories in small, manageable doses (titration) and shifting between distress and calm states (pendulation).

  • Bodywork: Physical techniques such as therapeutic touch, massage, yoga, or movement to release tension.

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) and EMDR: Often used in combination to process memories and internal parts of the self. 

Integrated trauma therapy combines trauma powerfully combines to release trapped trauma, reduce physical tension, and rewire stress responses.
